Poster Hill Upsweep

The Nothern Nyandarua has many wonders to explore, and most remain unexplored. In the spirit of adventure and the need to open more destinations to explore in Kenya’s mountains, we have had a rigorous check as we build resilience to see more places that will add to our satisfaction from hiking. After testing with the likes of Rhino Hill and Maratini Hill, and realizing how tamable the Nothern Aberdare moorlands are, we are happy to present the new Poster Upsweep again that will see you as a trailmaker. We know when you hear trailmaking, you think it’s a very challenging hike. However, the distance of the untamed moorlands will be approximately 4km. However, considering we just came from a rainy season, the surprise could be overgrown paths. Be prepared that the rich moorlands of the Aberdares could cover some parts of the trail.

To the East of Table Mountain is a gem known as Poster. The thrill is the landscapes and the views as you build endurance. From the Magical rocks up the Table Mountain, the flora past the bogs, and the panoramic landscapes past the Table Mountain summit, you will love the experience. This hike starts at Mikeu Shopping Center and takes a left turn past the Aberdares Forest gate to the base of Table Mountain. Here, you will cross a river and ascend a steep ascent to the leveled ground, where you have rock views ahead and a beautiful forest landscape behind. The next stretch is gentler, leading to another river crossing, then the start of rocks and a short and boggy section. Past this bog, the next section is floral, especially after fresh rains. After a few more steps, the Table Mountain Summit welcomes you.

After recharging the adventurous spirit, we will take the trail to Lesatima. This will be more adventurous, motivated by the east views as you head to Mount Satima. A few moments after we cross the valley past Table Mountain, we will exit the path and elevate to Poster Hill Summit.

What to Wear During the Poster Hill Upsweep

1. Fleece Marvin/hat or a baseball cap.
2. Proper hiking clothes (polyester t-shirt, wind jacket, hiking pants, fleece jacket).
3. Comfortable hiking boots (should be at least one size bigger than your standard shoe size).
4. Sunscreen.

In the Poster Hill Upsweep Backpack, Have

1. At least 2 liters of water (use a water bladder or a reusable bottle). Disposable plastic bottles are not allowed inside parks.
2. Snacks such as biscuits, nuts, fruits, crisps, etc.
3. A hiking pole.
4. A raincoat/poncho.

It is Also Advisable to Have

1. A set of clothes to change into after the hike (sometimes, the good hiking gear also fails, and weather changes are unexpected).

Trip Itinerary

Meeting point: Kencom, Nairobi CBD (Opposite the city clock).

• 4.00 am: Boarding opens
• 4.15 am: Departure for Mikeu Shopping Center (The departure time is strict)
• 7.30 am: Arrival at Mikeu Shopping Center
• 8.00 am: Hike starts
• 2.00 pm: Turn-back time
• 6.00 pm: Departure for Nairobi
