Our 2 Days Mount Kenya Naro Moru Ascent will be an ultimate summit attempt to hit Mount Kenya’s third-highest peak (Peak Lenana). If you have beeen limited by availability for multiple days, here’s your chance to summit Mount Kenya over the weekend.

This is a very scenic hike, especially near Mackinders Camp, where the team will camp that night. From an elevation of 1795m at Nairobi, the first day will see the team elevate to Mackinders Camp.

The team will then camp and wake up to another notoriously steep climb and elevation gain of 685m to point Lenana at 4985m, the summit. From this point, it will be not just the views of the snow. There will also be scenic surroundings, beautiful lakes and tarns, rocks, and peaks, not forgetting the just below Lewis Glacier.

Itinerary

Departure & Hike Day 1

• Leave Nairobi at 8:00 a.m. for Mount Kenya Naro Moru Gate.
• Arrive and Register at noon, then drive up to the Met Station Bandas.
• Have lunch and start the hike to Mackinders camp.
• Relax, and have dinner.
• Camp for a half night.
• On this day, there will be an elevation gain of 1300m hiking +1280m from Nairobi.
• The hiking distance is approximately 10km.

Hike Day 2 & Exit

• Early light breakfast at 1.00 a.m.
• Pack water and lunch.
• Start the day’s ascent to Point Lenana (at 4985m).
• Summit and start the descent to Met Station Bandas (3080m).
• Wrap-up as we clear with the team handover of belongings.
• Leave for Nairobi.
• There will be an elevation gain of 695m and a loss of 1905m on this day.

What to Wear

• Fleece Marvin/hat or a baseball cap
• Proper hiking clothes (polyester t-shirt, hiking pants, fleece jacket)
• Raincoat/poncho
• Comfortable hiking boots (should be one size bigger than your standard shoe size)
• Sunscreen

In your backpack

• Snacks such as biscuits, nuts, crisps, etc.
• At least 2 liters of water (use a water bladder or a reusable bottle). Disposable plastic bottles are not allowed inside parks.
• Valid identification document.
• Sunglasses and sunscreen/petroleum jelly.
• Hiking pole
